Top readers in summer library program listed SCHOOL HONORS Fry named collegiate scholar Rachel Fry of Shelbyville has accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars and wifl be honored during a campus ceremony this fall at Eastern Illinois University.

The society was established on the principle that with scholarship comes a responsibility to develop leadership and a duty to perform service. She is the daughter of Butch and Hilda Fry of Shelbyville and the granddaughter of Clara Livingston of Mattoon. Moffett named collegiate scholar Caralea Moffett of Strasburg has accepted membership in The National Society of Collegiate Scholars and will be honored during a campus ceremony this fall at Illinois State University. The society was established on the principle that with scholarship comes a responsibility to develop leadership and a duty to perfonn service. She is the daughter of Cinda Held of Strasburg and the late Daryl Moffett.

Her grandparents are Dwight and Grace Moffett of Windsor and Gail Rincker of Strasburg. Moffett will be a sophomore at ISU this fall. She is involved with the honors program and has a major in international business, with a minor in German. NAMES IN THE NEWS Stilwells named life members of Who's Who James E. and Margaret Stilwell of Ashmore have been accepted by Kingston's National Registry of Who's Who as life members.

The Stilwells' achievements will be chronicled in a biographical profile in the upcoming Kingston's National Registry of Who's Who 2002 Edition, which will be distributed nationally. Kingston's National Registry of Who's Who mission is to continue to seek out and extol these exemplary individuals who have made a contribution to their profession and community. Elliott speaks to Exchange Club Bill Elliott, coordinator of the International Studies Program at Lake Land College, was a 1,573 books read. The Read-To-Me Club had three children who each had 183 books read to them. The children are Nathan Carpenter, Kristin Doty and McClain Homann.

They all attend Darlene Bartlett's Day Care. The grade 1 winner, Sevi Henne, also attends Darlene's Day Care. Girls from the Coles County area that attended camp were: Charleston: Michelle Borreggine, Janelle Chouinard, MacKenzie Corrie, Lori Ann Five reunite on their 50th anniversary of enlistment NEOGA Five men originally from Neoga who enlisted in the U.S.

Air Force on Aug. 15, 1951, recently gathered for what marked their 50th anniversary date of enlistment. Ray Deadmond, 69, Carl Starwalt, 68, Gene Fear, 68, Ron Carruthers, 67, and Bob Mesnard, 67, joined the Air Force at what was then the start of the Korean War when they were 17 to 19 years old. After leaving from Greenup, the men were sent to Sampson Air Force Base near Geneva, N.Y., for their basic training, where the five remained in the same squad for at least 8 weeks. Technical school took them in different directions and they lost track of one another for about 20 years.

Starwalt Fear and Carruthers retired from the Air Force in 1971 and went on to other careers. Mesnard and Deadmond left after four years in the service to other careers. "I don't suppose all five of us have been together all at once since 1951, like we are now," said Fear. The men spent the evening with their wives reminiscing about days gone by. All but Deadmond have retired from working.

recent speaker to the Exchange Club of Mattoon. The program was started in 1997 and is designed to promote Elliott cultural diversity in the student body at LLC. Elliott discussed the international program and the Intensive English Language Program that complements the international program. Elliott assists students from around the worid in making an application to LLC and in applying for a VISA, along with assistance with travel needs. He meets the students at the airport when they arrive, and arranges for orientation and mentoring programs once they arrive on campus.
