A large crowd that gathered at Peterson Park for Mat- toon's annual Veterans Day ceremony heard about the expression, "I've got your back." It's fairly common these days and almost a "creed" among those in the military, Mattoon American Legion Post 88 commander Mike Weaver told the crowd.

He read a poem toldfirst by a child and then the mother and the spouse of someone in the service, before the soldier himself says, "It's me that's got your back." "On this day, try to do your Veterans Day-related events today 8:30 a.m., Oakland's Lake Crest School invites veterans to have breakfast with students. 8:30 a.m., Mattoon Middle School, Veterans Day assembly. 9 a.m., Cumberland school district Veterans Day program. All area veterans and active duty personnel are invited to attend. Cinnamon rolls and drinks will be served to the public at 8:15 a.m.
