He is a member of the Conder National Honor Society and president of the FA. Conder plans to enter the Marines in September and pursue engineering. McClain named student of the month Coartney McClain has been named Student of the Month for February by Shelbyville High School McClain is the daughter of Dave and Nancy McClain. She has a 3.792 grade-point average on a 4.0 scale and is ranked 16th in her class. She is involved in Key Club, FCCLA and band.

McClain has been recognized in Who's Who Among American High School student and is part of the National Honor Roll. She plans to attend Lake Land College for two years and then transfer to obtain a degree in marine sciences. Eastin named to dean's list A local student at Columbia College has been named to the dean's list for the fall 2002 semester. Students who have a grade-point average of 3.5 for the fall semester are placed on the "dean's list. Named to the list was Rachel Eastin, daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. James E. Eastin of Mattoon. Columbia College is a private women's college in Columbia, S.C. C-W students honored by IPA On March 19, member principals of the Illinois Principals Association throughout the Wabash Valley Region honored selected students from their buildings for outstanding contributions to their respective schools.

These students and their parents were the guest of the IPA at a banquet held at Newton High School. The featured speaker for the evening was Dean Tucker, motivational speaker and recently retired principal of Charleston High School. Each principal in the region is encouraged to choose a student or students from their buildjng for this award. According to David Turner, executive director of the IPA, the honored students "display not only scholastic aptitude, but the attitudes and enthusiasm that contribute to a posi-" tive school climate." The teaching staff at Casey-Westfield Junior High School selected Kaylee Babbs and Brennan Ragon as the recipients of the 2003 IPA Wabash Valley Region Principals Award. Babbs is the daughter of Kent and Tami Babbs of Westfield and Ragon is the son of Rusty and Camille Ragon of Casey.

Truman, home ported in Norfolk, Va. C'land youth to attend legislative connection Along with each 4-H club president and 4-H ambassadors, four Cumberland County 4-H members were invited to attend the 4-H Legislative Connection in Springfield April 15.
