Marching Knights honored at contests The Arthur Marching Knights have been having a very successful season so far this year. The band is performing a show with a Latin flare. They have recently completed in the Mahomet-Seymour Marching Band Competition and the Eastern Illinois University Invitational.

The band left the field with outstand- ing results. From the Mahomet-Seymour competition, the band received first place, auxiliary; first place, percussion; first place, winds; second drum major; and first place, overall field in class. From the EIU competition, the band received first place, auxiliary; first place, overall field of class; second place, drum major; and third place, percussion. The Marching Knights will be competing at Illinois State University on Oct. 18 and will finish out their year by hosting their own Bandfest in Arthur on Oct.

25. Student named to Symphonic Band pr A Mattoon student has been jriamed to the Symphonic Band for the 1997-98 school year at Cul-Ver-Stockton College. Mary Martha Short, daughter bt Donald and the Rev. Barbara Ehort of Mattoon, will be a member of the group. She is a fresh-pian majoring in business administration.
