Saturday on the second floor of Coleman Hall. The round-robin tournament consists of 24 high school teams from the surrounding area that compete in a head-to-head competition. All teams are guaranteed at least three matches, with the winners from each bracket advancing to the five championship rounds. Trophies are awarded to the top seven teams and the top three MVP's who score the most points in the first three rounds for their respective teams. Participating high schools are Casey-Westfield, Charleston, Clinton, Cumberland, East Richland, Effingham, Fairfield, Find-lay, Flora, Hutsonville, Mattoon, Neoga, Newton, Oakland, Oblong, Palestine, Paris, Robinson, St.

Anthony (Effingham), St. Elmo, Shelbyville, Sullivan, Tay-lorville and Teutopolis. The public is invited to attend. CHARLESTON With the 1997 release of the movie "Rosewood," the story of the 1923 massacre of a middle-class black community in Rosewood, has captured the attention of millions of Americans. Arnette Doctor, author of "Like Judgment Da) The True Story of Rosewood," the book on which the film is based, and whose mother (then 1 1) was one of the few Rosewood inhabitants to escape the massacre, will speak at 8 p.m.

Wednesday, Feb. 11, in the Grand Ballroom of Eastern Illinois University's Martin Luther King Jr. University Union. Admission is $1 for students with ID, $3 for the general public. The presentation is part of this year's African-American Heritage Celebration at the The story of "Rosewood" is based on a white woman's false accusation that a black man had raped her and the ensuing seven-day riot lynchings, murders and rapes which culminated with the town's destruction.

The death toll has been estimated at 40 to 150; no one knows the exact figure. Doctor has campaigned for years in an effort to get Rosewood's history acknowledged. He spearheaded the campaign for Rosewood recognition in the Florida Legislature and, in 1994, the government voted $2 million in compensation for the surviving families, most of whom had settled in Lacoochee, Florida. Rosewood itself was never rebuilt, although a few trailer park residents all white skirt the original ern Illinois University's 1998 African-American Heritage Celebration. Obiakor, a leading authority on multiculturalism in higher education, will speak at 7 p.m.

Monday, Feb. 9, in the Martin Luther King Jr. University Union Grand Ballroom. Admission is free. A professor of special education at Emporia State University, Kansas City, Obiakor currently serves as coordinator of the Graduate Mental Disability Program, director of the Special Education Program, and coordinatorsupervisor of Special Education, Division of Psychology and Special Education.

Among his notable accomplishments, Obiakor has taught more than 40 undergraduate-and graduate-level courses in the area of special education. He is a celebrated author with more than 30 publications, 50 academic articles, and 35 commentaries and essays on special education and multiculturalism. He is a nationallyinternationally recognized presenter with more than 50 presentations to his credit. In addition, Obiakor is an accomplished poet whose published works include "Letter to Malcolm Song of the Hood," "The Cry of the Giant," "Life and Death," "Spiritual Cleansing," "The Teacher," "Don't Let My Freedom Go" and "CalltoChukwu."
