I am 82 and this has been self-addressed envelope for it to me, in care of this going on for 10 years newsDaDer. P.O. Box 1551. DEAR DR. LAMB I read your column about the person who had a spastic colon that was caused by drinking milk.

I too had gas, cramps, sometimes mild diarrhea, but most of all those terrible pains from bloating. After reading about her problem I decided that perhaps my spastic colon was really milk intolerance so I quit all milk and stopped eating anything made with milk. In a week's time I was a different person. No more pain, distention and feeling uncomfortable just to bend over. It is wonderful.

It annoys me that I suffered all those years when the solution was so simple. 1 Now the problem is how I can get my calcium. I suppose I could take pills but I would like to have some milk. I have heard that people who cannot tolerate cow's milk can use goat's milk. Will that be all right? How about dried milk powder? Here we see him operating in a match-point duplicate game. Sitting South, he didn't like the idea of letting his opponents play in two spades. His delayed double was designed to push them one higher, but West redoubled to show full values or maybe a trifle more for his previous bids.

North passed to let Jean get out of his own mess, and Jean ran to three hearts. East doubled. West opened a trump. East, played low and Jean was in with the eight. Now came a world-class play.

Jean led his jack of diamonds! He had decided to play West for the diamond king. West was faced with a Hobson's choice. If he rose with the king and continued trumps, Jean would be able to cash his diamond ace and get to. discard a spade on the diamond queen. West did duck.

Now a spade was led. East won and played his ace-10 of trumps. The defense got three spade tricks, but now all Jean had to do was to play dummy's ace of clubs, lead a low club to his hand, 'hold back his queen and watch West take his king for a one-trick instead of a two-trick penalty. Down 100 was a good score. Down 300 would have been a catastrophe.
