Odie Hillis, Charleston. Thornburgh said there is work to be done on the Lake and that it probably would be open the first of next week. City Recreation Director Bob Carlen said Wednesday that he had received a letter from the Illinois Department of Health giving him the go ahead to open the swimming area. Tests run on the lake showed the presence of bacteria that would make it unsafe for swimming. Carlen said the letter from Don Peasley of the health department, stated that the water is now safe for swimming.

Tests will still have to be made on the water twice a month to determine the bacteria count, said Carlen. Film presented at Lions Club meeting A Central Illinois Public Service Co. film was presented at the Lions Club meeting Thursday in the Elks Club. The film was entitled "Zero Draft." It told about the un popularity of the draft since the Civil War. It showed how the Army is trying to establish a new lifestyle for GIs in order to create a better Army.

murder and suicide in Oblong. Harry Joseph Flynn, 65, was found dead Wednesday in the backyard of his home. Also found dead were Jollie K. Watson, 60, and Watson's wife Goldie, 59. According to police reports, Mrs.

Watson had moved in with Flynn about three, days before the killings. Watson apparently shot his wife and Flynn, and then killed himself. Funeral services for Mr. Flynn were held at 1 p.m. today at the Marshall Funeral Home in Oblong.

Burial was in Oblong Cemetery with military graveside rites. He was born in Mattoon, the son of Joseph and Ivy Russell Flynn. Surviving are three brothers; William of Gary, Albert of Aurora, and Lewis of Hut-sonville; and three sisters, Vera Sutton of Aurora and Edna Riser and Maymie Miller, both of Oblong. Mr. Flynn was a veteran of World War II and a retired carpenter.

Bobbitt was born April 23, 1884, in Linton, Ind. She married uscar Bobbitt February, 1908. He died May 16, 1943: Surviving are a daughter, Ruth James of Brownsburg, a son. Joseph R. of Rock- wood, and two grand' sons.

Mrs. Bobbitt was a member of the First Christian Church of Mattoon. Mrs. Helen E. Shuck Mrs.

Helen E. Shuck, 65, of 109 Prairie, died at 8:23 a.m. today in Memorial Hospital. She has been ill one week. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m.

Sunday in Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Compton officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Saturday.

Mrs. Shuck was born July 17, 1907, in Memphis, the daughter of John Franklin and Emily Cora Johnson Riley. She married Linwood Shuck in Houston, Tex. He preceded her in death. Surviving are three nieces, Mrs.

Frank (June) Dayis of Mattoon, Mrs. Ronald (Joyce) Tobeck of Breckenridge, and Mrs. Thomas (Jean) Walls of Nashville, and one nephew, Jerry Gray Shelton of Marble Falls, Tex. Mrs. Shuck was a licensed practical nurse and had worked at, Memorial Hospital for the past five years.

She came to Mattoon five years ago from Blytheville, Ark. She was a member of the Baptist Church of Memphis, Tenn. A WAC during World War II, she served in the 75th WAC Hospital Company. Mrs. F.

MacMechan Mrs. Florence Mary Mac Mechan, 86, of the IOOF Old Folks Home died at 2:10 a.m. today at the home. Funeral services are incomplete at Schilling's Funeral Home. Mrs.

MacMechan was born in Chicago March 20, 1887. She married William J. MacMechan, who preceded her in death. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Patricia J.

No visitation. SCHILLING'S 5 CHARLESTON, 111. Two Mattoon women had arraign ment procedures set in Coles County Circuit Court Thursday. Emma Jean and Victoria Lee Morgan, both of 401 Oklahoma, will face charges of criminal damage to property, criminal trespass on land, battery and disorderly conduct on July 8. Emma Jean is charged with criminal damage to property, criminal trespass on land and disorderly conduct.

Victoria is charged with criminal trespass, battery and two counts- of disorderly conduct. On June 6, Emma Jean is alleged to have damaged the front storm door and glass of the Robert E. and Barbetta Russell residence at 313 Oklahoma, and was charged with criminal damage to property. Mattoon man found shot at residence Harlan D. Hopgood was found dead Thursday in his home of an apparently self-inflicted shotgun wound.

Hopgood, 40, of 1413 N. 10th was found fully clothed in his bed at 10:34 p.m. by police. According to police, a 12-gauge shotgun was found near the body. Hopgood had been shot in the head.

Police were called to the scene by Hopgood's son, Bruce, who told police that he and Ralph Smith Jr. were "unable to raise anyone in the house." When police arrived, they found the radio playing. Coroner Richard "Dick" Lynch said Hopgood son hadn't seen his father "since about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and he got a little concerned." Lynch said that Hopgood, a self-employed trucker, was living alone in the home at the time of his death. Hopgood had apparently been "despondent over the last several months," Lynch said.

The coroner said he did not know exactly how long Hopgood had been dead. An inquest into the death has tentatively been scheduled for next Tuesday, according to Lynch. Funeral services for Mr. Hopgood will.be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with Rev.

Morris Clark officiating. Burial will be in Dodge Grove Cemetery. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr.

Hopgood was born Sept. 1932, in Mattoon, the son of Joe O. and Elizabeth Derrickson Hopgood. He married Viola Lavella Brown in Charleston 'in 1951. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother of Mattoon; four sons, Bruce Edward of Mattoon, Harold Joseph of Altadina, and Harland D. Jr. and Brian Dennis, both at home; two daughters, Margie Jean and Laura Lynn, both at home; a brother, Joseph J. of Mattoon; three sisters, Mrs. Theophilus (Opal) Hunt of Chicago, Mrs.

James R. (Roberta) Williams and Mrs. Ralph (Ruby) Smith, both of Mattoon; and two grandchildren! Union company agree ARTHUR, III. Progress Industries, and Local 151 of the International Union of Operating Engineers have agreed on a new three-year contract, according to Chester Martin, chairman 'of the corti- pany negotiating team. The new contract, which was signed on June 8, provides for base rate increases from 35 cents to 66 cents per hour and mileage rate increases for truck drivers.

This year's committee consisted of Martin, Cecil Walker, Doug Jurgens arid Dave Lane for the company, and Herb Hunt, Dennis Schable, Jim Harden, Jim Buckley, Allen Nave, and James Horaitis for the union. Concert blocked JERSEYVILLE, 111. (AP)' -Circuit Judge Howard Lee White has blocked a Jersey CduW rock concert planned for Saturday. After hearing seven hours of argument Thursday he told promoter Dorsey Methariy he would be in contempt if he proceeded with preparations for the concert or if the concert took place. LaMasters of 1316 Shelby had been charged with allegedly entering the private office of the Mattoon branch of the state's attorney's office on April 23, and saying they were going to keep Judy Cunningham company. Both defendants had pleaded innocent and had demanded a bench trial on April 23. The charge was dismissed against LaMasters Thursday on a motion of the state's attorney. Gordon, of Neoga, was fined $25 and costs after he was found guilty of throwing ash trays and glasses and using a foud voice that alarmed Geno Bernadini on June 8.

Spain, of 408 Woodlawn, was also fined $25 and costs for allegedly using loud, abusive and profane language on June 6 that alarmed Jack Ragsdale, Griffin, of 601 Edgar, was fined $15 and costs for allegedly using loud, abusive and profane language on June 8 that alarmed Charles Boyer. An Oakland man pleaded guilty to a battery charge and was fined $25 and costs. Jesse James Wright, 48, allegedly struck Olive Wright on June 10. Carl A. Reed, 35, of 2509 Charleston, pleaded guilty to two counts of deceptive practices.

His sentencing hearing was set for 9 a.m. Sept. 4. He allegedly wrote bad checks on May 27 and 28 to the Mattoon Wilb. Walker's Supermarket for $55 each.

He was released on $1,000 recognicance bond. Robert E. Young and Jim Gumm, no address listed, had a charge of deceptive practices dismissed on a motion of the complaining witness. The two had allegedly written a bad check to Jim Gumm Jr, on Feb. 16 for $200.

Three get tickets in accidents Three persons were ticketed following traffic accidents Thursday. Kenneth D. Knoot, 24, Charleston was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident following ji twoar accident which occurred at 4:20 p.m. According to police, Knoot was headed west on Charleston when his vehicle struck a car driven by Herbert C. Becker, 55, of Neoga.

Becker was stopped on Charleston at the intersection of 6th. He was also headed west. John L. Watters, 44, of Windsor was ticketed for im proper passing following a two- car accident at 4:25 p.m. Police reported that Watters was driving on Marshall when he attempted to pass a car driven by Raymond F.

Rodebaugh, 16, of 2400 Marion. Rodebaugh was turning right from Marshall onto 26th when Watters attempted to pass him on the right. Candice White, 24, of Humboldt was ticketed for driving too fast for conditions following a two-car accident at 11:37 p.m. Police stated that the woman was driving north in Ihe 100 block of N. 14th when her car struck a parked auto belonging to Paul Young.

He married Foline DeBuhr March 20, 1918, in Mattoon. She died July 19, 1942. -He married Mildred Jones Mesnard May 15, 1356, in Corinth, Miss. She survives. Also surviving are a son, Jack of Villa Park; a daughter, Mrs.

Gene (Emily) Manuell of Palestine; a stepson, Robert Mesnard of Coffeen; four grandchildren, six step- grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister, A retired postmaster and mail carrier, Mr. Ellis was a member of Votaw-Swank Post 458 of Neoga and the National Association of Retired Federal Employes. Louise Bayes of Downey, a brother, John of Sidney; a sister, Mrs. Inez Puckett of Whiteheath; four grand children and four greatgrandchildren. Forrest A. Negley CHARLESTON, 111. -Funeral services for Forrest A.

Negley will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Harper-Swickard Funeral Home, Charleston. Burial will be- in Roselawn Cemetery, Charleston. Friends may call from 4 to 6 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Negley, 73, of Charleston died at 11:15 p.m. Wednesday in Burnham City Hospital, Champaign. He was born Dec. 26, 1899, in Grayville, the son of James and Laura Gillard Negley.

He married Sarah Galbreath, who 'preceded him in death Oct. 14, 1972. He later married Ethel Anderson of Charleston. Surviving are his widow; two daughters, Mrs. Harold (Hallie) Freeland of Morton and Mrs.

Merle (Sarah Beth) Spangler of Granite City; four grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren. Mr. Negley was a retired mail carrier. He carried mail for over 27 years in the Charleston area. He was a member of the First Christian Church, VFW, American Legion, Elks and National Rural Letter Carriers Association.

He was a veteran of World War I. Local deaths Mrs. Janie Mathews Mrs. Janie Mathews, 81, of 405 Crestniore died this morning in Charleston Community Hospital. Funeral services will be held Monday in Shannon Funeral Home, Shelbyville.

Ky. Burial will be in GroveHill Cemetery, Shelbyville, Schilling's Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements. Mrs. Mathews was born Sept. 18, 1892, in Shelby County, the daughter of Marcus and Melinda Ann Marlow Cin-namond.

She married William Hendrick Mathews, who preceded her in death. burviving are tnree sons, Harold of Mattoon, who is associated with Arcade Drug Store, Bland C. "of Louisville, and William Stanley of Oxford, Ohio; two brothers, Dale and Smith Cinnamond, both of Shelbyville, sister. Bertha Aldridge of Frankfort, five grand children and seven greatgrandchildren. Mrs.

Mathews was a member of the First Baptist Church in Shelby County, Ky. Mrs. i red Lebrecht, Route 3. Mrs. Josephine Pettyjohn, 2712 Champaign.

Woman injured in auto crash CHARLESTON, 111. A Syracuse, N.Y., woman was injured Thursday in a car-truck collision in Charleston. Injured was Ruth Pinneli, 55. She was treated and released a Charleston Community Memorial Hospital. Mrs.

Pinneli was westbound on Madison when she was struck by a semi-trailer truck driven by Dave Cobble of Charleston. Cobble was northbound on 18th St. He told police he had stopped at the intersection and then turned left into the path of the Pinneli vehicle. He was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way. Shoplifting charge dropped CHARLESTON, 111.

-Charges against Martha Ann Klestinski of Greenup have been dropped by the state's attorney's office. Mrs. Klestinski had been charged with shoplifting on May 9 for allegedly taking some dog toys at the Mattoon Eisner Food Store. FUNERALS SHUCK, Mrs. Helen Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m..
